Terms of Service
Effective October 15, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Inklings ("we", "us"), the operator of the Inklings journal app at inklings.net and its sync service. By using Inklings, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. What Inklings is
Inklings is a bullet journal you type. You can use it for free on your own device without an account. With a paid plan, the sync service keeps your journal on our server too, so it's on every device you sign in on, and lets you share collections with other people and publish public pages.
2. Your account
- You need an account to sync. Give us an email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password and passkeys safe. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- You must be at least 16 years old to make an account.
- One person per account. You can sign in on up to 10 devices at a time.
- Each account comes with 1 GB of storage for synced writing. When it's full, sync pauses until you make room. Writing on your device carries on.
3. Free use
Without a plan, Inklings works on your device: you can write, save a copy of your journal and bring one in. What you write stays on that device; we don't receive it. Clearing your browser's data can erase it, so save a copy now and then.
4. Plans, the free trial, and payment
| Plan | Price | Renews |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $5.99 a month | Every month |
| Yearly | $49.99 a year | Every year |
- Free trial. Confirming your email address starts a free trial of sync: 14 days, or 30 days if a friend invited you. No card is needed. If you don't choose a plan by its end, sync pauses; nothing is charged.
- One trial per person. We may decline a free trial for an address, or a device, that has already had one, or for a disposable email address. You can still choose a plan.
- Choosing a plan. Payment is handled by Stripe. If you add a card during your trial, your first charge is at the trial's end. After that, your plan renews automatically at the start of each period, at the price shown when you chose it, until you cancel.
- Price changes. We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before a new price applies to your plan. It applies from your next renewal; you can cancel before then.
- Taxes. Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added where required, as shown at checkout.
- Invitations. When someone you invited pays for their first period, your account may get a month of credit, up to 12 a year. Credits have no cash value and can be refused for misuse (for example, inviting yourself).
5. Cancelling
- You can cancel any time: in the app (Settings, then Cancel) or in the billing portal (Settings, then Manage).
- Cancelled during a trial, you're never charged. Cancelled during a paid period, sync keeps working until the period ends, and nothing more is charged.
- You can change your mind before the period ends ("Keep my plan").
6. Refunds
Payments aren't refunded for partial periods. If you were charged by mistake, or a renewal happened that you meant to cancel, write to hello@inklings.net within 14 days and we'll refund it.
Where the law where you live gives you a right to cancel or a refund, these terms don't take it away.
7. When a plan ends
- When a trial ends without a plan, or a plan lapses (cancelled, or a payment fails after Stripe's retries), sync pauses. Your journal keeps working on every device you have it on, and anything you write waits there; it all syncs once you choose a plan again.
- Collections you shared stay readable for their members. Public pages you published stay up for 30 days, then pause.
- If an account has had no plan for 12 months, we delete the copy of its journal kept on our server. We'll email you before that, 30 days and 7 days ahead. Your journal on your devices isn't affected.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in Settings (Danger zone). We delete it, and everything synced with it, 7 days later. Signing in before then keeps it. Deleting your account doesn't delete the journal on your devices. We keep a one-way hash of your email address after deletion, only to know it has had a free trial.
9. Your writing
- What you write is yours. You give us permission to store, copy and transmit it only to run the service for you: to sync it to your devices, and to show shared or public collections to the people you chose.
- We don't sell your writing, use it for advertising, or train AI models on it.
- Your journal is encrypted in transit but isn't end-to-end encrypted. See the Privacy policy for what we keep and why.
- Keep your own copies. The app can save a copy of your journal and its whole history at any time.
10. Sharing and public pages
You're responsible for what you share and publish. Don't share or publish anything that's illegal, that you don't have the right to share, or that harasses, threatens or exposes someone. We may take down a public page, or suspend sharing, if it breaks these rules or if we're legally required to.
11. Acceptable use
Don't use Inklings to break the law, to send spam, to get around limits or trials by making many accounts, to probe or overload our servers, or to get at other people's accounts or writing. We may suspend or close an account that does, and we'll tell you why unless the law says we can't.
12. Changes to the service and these terms
Inklings will change as we improve it. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before. If you keep using Inklings after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
13. If the service ends
If we ever shut Inklings' sync down, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice, refund any time you've paid for and won't get, and keep the app able to save a copy of your journal so you leave with all of it.
14. Disclaimers and liability
We work hard to keep Inklings running and your writing safe, but the service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Texas, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them where you live.
