Privacy
Your journal is yours. Here is what Inklings keeps, where, and why.
Without an account
Everything you write stays in this browser, on this device. Nothing of it is sent anywhere.
On an iPhone or iPad, Safari clears what a site keeps if you don't open it for 7 days. Add Inklings to your home screen (Share, then Add to Home Screen) and it keeps your journal. Either way, save a copy now and then, from Settings.
With an account
Signing in keeps your journal on our server too, so every device you sign in on has it. We keep your email address (to sign you in, and to send links to confirm it or reset your password) and your journal's changes, in the order you made them.
Your password never leaves your device. The app turns it into a key there and sends only that key. We keep a one-way hash of the key. A passkey leaves us only its public key.
Your journal is encrypted in transit. It isn't end-to-end encrypted: the server could read it. Our server sits behind Cloudflare, which sees the traffic in transit.
Shared and public collections
A collection you share can be read by the people you share it with. A public page can be read by anyone with its link, until you stop it. Nothing else from your journal is included.
If your plan ends
Nothing is taken from your devices, and you keep writing. Sync pauses; what's on our server stays until you delete your account. Public links stay up for 30 days, then pause.
"Help improve Inklings"
While this setting is on (it is, unless you turn it off in Settings), the app sends the names of things you do (such as "opened Today" or "made an account"), crash reports, and timings. It never includes what you write. Turn it off and none of it is sent.
Feedback
A report from the Feedback sheet carries what it lists before you send it (the app's version, your device, the page you were on, your last actions' names); you can untick any of it.
Deleting your account
Settings → Sync → Delete the account. It waits 7 days, in case you change your mind; then everything we kept for it is deleted. Backups are deleted within 30 days after that. Your journal stays on your devices.
What we don't do
No ads. We don't sell or share your data. We don't record your screen. We look at your journal only if you ask us to, for that request, and every look is logged.
